Adding Integers with Like Signs

Integers are the set of signed numbers.  Signed numbers include positive numbers (example the number 9), negative numbers (example -9), and 0.  The integers are ...-8,-7,-6,-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5,6...

Adding integers with like signs is not difficult, once you know the procedure.

1.  Look at the two integers that you are adding and identify the common sign.

2. Use the common sign in the answer.

3.  Add the absolute values of the number.

example:  (-6) + (-3) = -9 

example:  8 + 6 = +14  or 14
